The whole point of exhibiting at a trade show is to attract new people to your company in order to create leads and secure more sales. There is little point in spending a lot of time, energy and money on a dull stand design that will not attract anyone to your company. The problem is that yours will be just one company competing against many others, many of which will have created eye-catching stand designs that could potentially lure your audience away from you.
So here are our top tips on creating an intriguing and striking stand that will attract the attention of the right kind of new customers.
Looks and attitude
Obviously, your stand needs to look great, but you also need to make sure everyone manning the stand looks their best too. There’s no point in creating a stand that compels people to visit it if everyone manning it looks bored, are just talking to each other or are constantly checking their phones. Make sure everyone looks smart or get them uniforms that match your brand – this will have the added bonus of ensuring that even when your staff aren’t on the stand, your brand will be visible wherever they go. Make sure your staff are fully briefed on their roles at the exhibition so they can engage with people knowledgeably and confidently.
Something to play with
Many exhibitors like to give visitors something to do when they get to the stand. Interactive content in the form of touchscreen technology is very appealing – when they see there’s something to do, people will come over to investigate, and if you have people using the screens, others will come over just to see what’s going on. The content can be anything you like – demos, product information, surveys or quizzes. It’s a great way to collect email addresses – and you can encourage participation by entering everyone who leaves their contact details into a prize draw.
Something to watch
People always like learning something new, and visitors are usually willing to stand (or sit) and watch a presentation as it gives them a chance to take a break. So think about putting on talks or product demonstrations throughout the trade show, with your most entertaining staff member on microphone duty! Or, if you have the budget, invest in a professional speaker or actor to do the job for you.
Alternatively, you could create videos about your products and show them on your stand. The movement of the videos will help attract people, and hopefully, the content will intrigue them enough to watch all the way through, and then talk to one of your staff afterwards.

We worked with MXL to produce our stand at International Confex - they were easy to work with and we couldn't be happier with the final result. Would highly recommend.

MXL guided us through the process of idea generation, design and delivery of our stand for the larger event in our calendar. The process was easy, friendly and you always felt that you had the support you needed. A fantastic build quality and the final stand looked perfect.

Really professional job on building our stand for the World Travel Market 2019 in London. It was really easy to communicate with the guys from MxL. We only had an online meeting to discuss the building details and logistics and they've managed everything.

I'd worked with MxL to fabricate a custom-built stand prior to its installation at a trade show. Though the trade show was in the UK, I'm based in the US, and needed clear and regular communication during the process so that I could be assured everything ran smoothly. Richard Moule was very communicative during the estimate process, build, installation, and dismantle. There were several last minute changes that he and his crew had made accommodations for, without issue. Our UK team was very pleased with the look of the booth, and I couldn't have been happier with all of the work done by MxL. I would recommend their services to anyone with a need.
